We're already excited about the holiday in our home! The kids have a football game with Dad planned, and I'll be in the kitchen all day, like every year. Going out to eat would be easier, but wouldn't taste nearly the same. Two days of cooking for one meal does sound insane!
This week has been a much needed vacation. I've been kind of lazy about blogging - really lazy. We've hit the book store 3 times already. It's nice to have NOTHING to do. The kids have been sleeping until around 10am. This messes up Sopes plan of taking them to the rink, but I'm not letting him wake them. Each day my naps would surely rival any cat!
We went to Sopes hockey game on Friday against Washington. It was great to see the kids so excited, they even made a sign. Jayla yelling, "Daddy" across the rink thinking he could hear her, reminded me of Jake being 6 again and doing the same thing. I did tear up a bit. Lyla was so excited cheering at one point, she forgot the seats flip up and fell right on her ass! She was fine.
The fans were some of the nicest people we've met! I've never had someone ask if there was anything we needed - so amazingly kind. I guess it is the "Southern Hospitality". Our son Jake, was amazed that so many people recognized us from my blog. It was great to have my son so proud of me - and tell me.
We're looking forward to an impromptu stop at the local Ronald McDonald House to have a visit this week. Especially at this time of the year, it's important to be thankful for our children's health, and share with those who need a little lift in their spirits.
Have a great Thanksgiving Day, and remember that Sopes will do his video blog tomorrow instead of Friday. Not sure if I even want to know what he has up his sleeve!
If Sopes is dressed up like a turkey, I'm gonna die. lol.
Glad you guys had a nice visit in Washington and that Lyla is okay!

Really great hearing how good your week has been. You were all due some seriously good family time together. What have you picked up at the bookstore...what have you enjoyed reading lately?
I'm about to start Day One of Thanksgiving cooking myself. The pay-off tomorrow (and Fri and Sat, with leftovers) will be well worth it. Happy ATL Thanksgiving!

I'm glad you are enjoying your time here! I saw you at the game, but was worried you'd think I was some kind of stalker if I said "hello, I love your blog." So next time I see you, I'll say "hi!"
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Sopel family. Kelly I saw you and the girls right after the game, and like V (Sunshine) above, I didn't want to interrupt your family time so I just stood in marvel, about 5 feet away. Next time, I'll say hello as well. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, love your blog, and if you're there tonight, have a blast. We are going to have a fun nite in Blueland.

I'm just hoping it's not me dressing up like a turkey :) With that being said, if Sopes really does need me to dress up as Turkey Tommy, I'm on the next flight down!! LOL! Missing you and the kids!

It's so refreshing to hear that there are humble and caring individuals in the world of professional sports. So often we hear of the horror stories but you all ate FAR from that. From the sounds of it, you have some truly remarkable kids and Kelly, your helplessness is so admirable. Have a very happy Thanksgiving full of quality family time, you guys deserve it.

I am a Pittsburgher, and we had the wonderful pleasure of having the Bill Guerin and his family in our beautiful city for a time. As much as I loved seeing Billy out on the ice, I think I enjoyed seeing his kids in the stands even more! They always made him signs and would stand down at the glass during warm-ups - it was just the coolest thing.
Hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving!

I discovered your blog a few months ago and I have been loving it! I worked in the hockey industry for years and encountered a lot. Reading your blog is so refreshing, so real. I am also a cancer survivor so could relate to your postings on that. You have a great family and are a strong woman. Keep up the good work!
